As the political parties bicker over the nuclear deal, in Kalpakkam near Chennai, nuclear history is being made.

For the first time, an 80-tonne safety vessel was successfully erected in the reactor walls of Kalpakkam.

This marks the beginning of installation of critical equipment including the nuclear reactor.

If everything goes well, this Rs 3,000 crore plant will produce 500 megawatts of electricity from September 2010 at Rs 3.22 per unit.
