A crowd at Mumbai's Masina Hospital demanded justice when three ward boys allegedly molested two girls who were undergoing treatment.

The girls - aged 16 and 23 - were undergoing treatment for burns since Sunday. They were brought to hospital after an accident with firecrackers outside their home in Bhendi Bazaar in South Mumbai.

Their family alleges that while changing bandages three wardboys molested the girls.

"My sisters told me that the ward boys were drunk. They kept touching them inappropriately and even after they objected, the ward boys would keep cotton swabs or tape on their thighs as an excuse to touch them," said victim's brother Mohammed Nadeem.

The hospital authorities, however, denied any knowledge of their staff being drunk on duty. And when asked about the names of the ward boys, the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital Firdous Commansurate said he doesn't know their names.

Unhappy with the response, the violent mob attacked the hospital chief and damaged property.

Six police vans were deployed to control the mob.

"One ward boy has been arrested in Thane and we have sent a team to identify the other ward boy. One more person is named an accused and we are in the process of identifying him," says Additional Police Commissioner, Sadanand Date.

But the family isn't happy with the police's response.

"Previously such cases have taken place in KEM and Tata Memorial hospital. We need to stop reacting to them and start ensuring these cases don't happen in the first place," says Ayub Khan, victim's family friend.

Hello. The story is very crisply written and outlines the viewpoint of the alleged victims very well. However, the other side of the story is not written about at all. An effort should have been made to ask the hospitals chief about the incident. The way the victims families reacted by hitting the chief badly (he is now in the ICCU) and by breaking the furniture was the wrong way to redress the alleged injustice. This fact was needed to be highlighted as well.

The Hospital managment has to concentrate on the slection of the staff. So that they can prevent this type of incident.
