Shopkeepers in the city have another day to ensure that their nameplates are displayed in the Devanagari script.
While the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had issued a diktat that all shops in the city should have name displayed prominently in Marathi, the corporation had given shopkeepers a month's time to display nameplates in Marathi. The deadline expires 24 hours from now.
Deputy municipal commissioner Milind Shambharkar said officials from the shops and establishments department across all the 24 municipal wards in the city had been informed to go on an inspection-cum-fining drive from August 29.
"When we served the notice, 70 per cent among the 4.8 lakh establishments had already provided for their nameplates in Marathi. We hope that the remaining 30 per
cent have also abided by the norms," said Shambharkar.
Those found violating would be prosecuted and produced before the small causes court, he said.
They will also be fined between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 depending on the extent of the violation.
