LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati unleashed another political sortie on Wednesday against her latest pet pique (the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre), saying the UPA regime was playing politics over terror attacks and trying to use her government as a tool against the BJP. She was reacting to a letter from the Centre asking her government to recommend a CBI inquiry into the recent blast in Kanpur in which two suspected Bajrang Dal members were blown to bits on Sunday last.
"If the Centre wants, it should take over inquiry of all the blasts that have taken place in UP. We will refer all of them to the CBI. But we will not allow the CBI to probe one hand-picked incident," Maya asserted, adding, "The Centre's approach is unfair and biased."
"There have been several blasts in UP since my government took over, and earlier during the Samajwadi Party regime, too. But the Centre never asked for a CBI inquiry into any of them. But in this case since the organisation involved is affiliated with the BJP, the Centre wants a CBI inquiry," she said.
On Sunday afternoon, a powerful blast in a house in Rajivnagar area of Kanpur left two dead. A large quantity of explosive material was recovered from the house later. Police investigations revealed both the deceased were related to the Bajrang Dal, and were trying to fashion grenades for a possible attack.
